Studio Policies

Welcome to Photography by Kj!

Each of our clients are very valuable to us and because we want to make each photography experience as wonderful and easy as possible and out of fairness to both our clients and ourselves we enforce the following studio policies for all sessions.

Studio Hours

Regular Sessions: Tuesday-Friday by appointment only, during studio hours 9:30a-5:30p. Our last session begins at 4:00pm.  

Saturday Sessions: Saturday is considered prime time and comes with an additional $75 session fee on top of the normal session fee. 

Closed: Sundays and Mondays

Photography by Kj reserves the right to refuse service to anyone at any time.

Session Fee

The session fee includes the photographer's time and talent, phone consultation to help plan your session, basic retouching and ordering session.  It does not include any finished portraits or products.  Your session fee is non-refundable.  All family and children's sessions require a minimum portrait purchase of $375 within 60 days of session date.  All Senior sessions also have minimum portrait purchases, please see brochure for specifics on this as they change with the chosen session.

Cancellation and Rescheduling

We require a $200 non-refundable retainer to book your session date and time.  If you need to reschedule your session due to sickness, injury or a scheduling conflict, please contact us at least 72 hours prior to your session and the $200 retainer will move with the session.  We understand that sometimes "life happens" and we get sick or other unexpected events pop up at the most inconvenient of times.  No need to worry...just give us a call and we will gladly reschedule your session at our earliest available date.  However, if you cancel your appointment withing 48 hours of your appointment time we reserve the right to assess the situation and you may lose your retainer.  In the event of a no show/no call your will indefinitely lose your $200 retainer. Please understand, during our busiest season we may not be able to reschedule for a long period of time.  You will have to wait until our next opening in our schedule.

Respectfully, we also reserve the right to reschedule a session due to illness, emergency, death in the family, inclement weather, and other unforeseen events beyond our control.  We will be sure to inform you of any such occurrences as soon as possible and will be sure to reschedule your session in the earliest date available.


Since we want to give each client our full attention as well as their full amount of time, we ask that you please be on time.  Although we love our clients to be early we recommend that you do not arrive more than 15 minutes prior to your appointment unless previously discussed with Kj.  If you are over 15 minutes late for your scheduled time, Photography by Kj reserves the right to cancel your session, and keep your retainer.  Keep in mind that weekend and evening sessions are in high demand and although we will go to great lengths to meet your scheduling needs, these sessions book well in advance.

Please bring only the subjects to be photographed to the session as well as a parent/guardian over 21 years old.  This is especially important with kids, as we will need their full attention on us rather than looking at other members of the family.  Of course parents are always welcome!

View & Order Session

Photography by Kj is not required to hold or keep your images for any amount of time.  You must place an order within 60 days of taking the photos or we reserve the right to delete your photos and keep your retainer.

Photography by Kj does not do proofs or online viewings for any sort of portraits including, but not limited to, senior photos, engagements, families, events, children & sports.

A single view and order session in-studio will be scheduled for viewing and ordering your photographs.  The purpose of the view and order session is to make your purchasing decision so please bring all the people involved in the decision.  

While Kj does capture many images during your session, you will see only those images selected by her, the artist, for previewing.  She carefully renders each image to ensure maximum artistry and technical perfection.  Images with eyes closed, heads turned, duplicates, etc. will not be shown and are removed from my archives permanently after the artist rendering is complete.  We have a variety of awesome products and ways for you to enjoy and share your images.  We will guide you through the process and help with any questions and make suggestions for displaying your portraits.

Additional View & Order Sessions can be made for $50 each.  Please keep in mind we cannot guarantee a time close to your original appointment.




All orders should be placed within 60 days of the session and must be accompanied by a 50% down payment.  Final payment is due at the time of order pick up.  


We make every effort to ensure complete satisfaction, because of the uniqueness of custom portraiture and products, all sales are final. Once you place your order, you have 48 hours to make any changes and after that no changes to your order will be made and you will be responsible for paying the full amount.


Please allow 4-6 weeks for your order to be complete.


Orders not picked-up within 60 days of notification are subject to a $20 storage fee/month.  Defects in workmanship will be promptly corrected.


With the exception of Announcements/Cards, the client has 48 hours to change their mind and change their order.  After the 48 hours, no changes can be made to the order.   The client is responsible for paying the order in full.


No part of any order will leave the studio until the ENTIRE order is paid in full.


If a photograph or other work becomes damaged in your possession (not due to faulty workmanship) we will gladly offer a replacement if possible, for a cost. Replacement costs vary by type and size of your portrait.  Please contact the studio to obtain a current price.


Images that you purchase are archived for your future purchase or for re-prints for 6 months from the date of your session.  Images that are NOT purchased are kept only for 10 days from the date of your view and order session.  After this 10 day period your non ordered from images will be deleted and no longer available.


Wedding albums take a great amount of detail to design so please allow 4-6 months for your final wedding album to come in.


Prices are subject to change at any time without notice.


Once you pay for your order in full you get to take all your product out of the studio.  You will sign an agreement that says you have gotten everything you ordered and are happy with your products.  After that you will have 7 days to let us know if you are unhappy for any reason with your order.  After those 7 days we assume your products are perfect and you are loving your order, and we will not replace any products for any reason. 

Photography by Kj will not offer refunds or rebates for any reason.  We will however, be happy to reprint your order if something is wrong with it on our end and you notify us within the 7 days.



We accept cash, personal check or money order, visa and master-card.  7% tax will be added to all appropriate sales.

A $30 administrative fee will be added to orders where a check doesn't clear.  If you have had a returned check we have the right to require cash only for payment or not release any product until we can confirm the check has cleared.

At your view and order session a 50% down payment is required.  You then have 48 hours to make any changes to your order.  After that 48 hours your sale is deemed final, and no changes will be made at that point, and you will be responsible for payment in full.  If for any reason you cannot put down 50% you will be required to sign a payment plan agreement.  If you are able to put down the required 50%, your order will be finished 4-6 weeks later.  We will call you when your order is ready for pick up.  Your order must then be picked up and paid in full within 60 days of notification that it is ready.  If it is not picked up and paid in full within the 60 days you will be charged a $20/month storage fee, charged the 1st day of the month for each month your order sits in our studio.

If we are offering to put your images on social media, absolutely no images will be put on social media until the entire order is paid in full and picked up from the studio.

Payment Plan

We are very happy to offer a payment plan to those who want it.  Client must sign the agreement and put TWO credit cards on file.  Your balance will be split up into 8 payments.  The first of payments will be made when signing the payment plan.  Then the remaining 7 payments will be made every other week on the same day of the week, lasting over a period of 14 weeks.  Absolutely no product will be taken out of the studio until the entire order is paid in full.  At the end of the 14 weeks the products must be paid in full, if for some reason they are not, Photography by Kj will be forced to take legal action.

Product Finishes and Care

Photography by Kj mounts and laminates all portraits ordered in the studio.  We strongly believe by doing this your prints are much more protected and safe.  If you do not want to finish your prints this way, you need to tell us that at your order.  There is no change in price but you can choose a matte/luster finish if you wish.  

When cleaning your product NEVER NEVER NEVER use chemicals on your products.  Always use a dry cloth to wipe them clean.

Archiving Images

While we try our hardest to back up your images and keep them in a safe place the problem with digital is anything can happen.  Cloud back up service may not work, cd's may not play and hard drives can go bad.  We do our best to keep your images safe for the minimum amount of time, but we do not guarantee it, and assume no liability for lost digital files.  

Images that are purchased from are archived for your future purchase or for re-prints for 6 months from the date of your view and order session.  Images that are NOT purchased are kept only for 10 days from the date of your view and order session.  After this 10 day period your non ordered from images will be deleted and no longer be available.

If we still have your images and you would like to order from them again after the 6 months, we will be happy to get them out of archive for a $125 fee.


The Copyright Act protects photographers by giving us, the artists, exclusive rights to reproduce your photographs.  Violations include, but are not limited to, making illegal copies, scanning, printing from home or downloading from our website or social media.  It is illegal to copy or reproduce these photographs in any manner without our permission and violators of this Federal Law will be subject to its civil and criminal penalties.  Please understand , the photographer wishes to maintain complete control over the print quality, finishes and presentation of the images and any reproduction outside of the studio may lower the quality of the image and scar our reputation for providing superior portraits.

Photography by Kj LLC owns the copyright to all images.  It is illegal to copy, scan, print or reproduce photographs or digital images created by Photography by Kj LLC without a paid print release.

By Doing so, you are devaluing my work as an artist.  Fines will start at $50,000 for copyright infringement.  


All clients under 18 years old must be accompanied by an parent/guardian.

Personal camera/phone/video

We do NOT allow outside cameras/phones/videos to be brought into the studio or on location sessions at any time for any reason.


We love pets!  Pets are allowed only if being photographed.  Pets must be on a leash or in a carrier.  Please let us know in advance if you plan to bring your pet. 


My goal as a professional photographer is to make you excited and happy with your photos.  There is no charge for re-shoots due to technical issues (equipment malfunction, computer malfunction, etc.).  However, due to the creative nature of what we do, we cannot offer free re-shoots for any reason including dissatisfaction with clothing, facial expressions, hair, wind, makeup or other items beyond our control.  In the event that you would like to schedule another session due to one of the above, we will offer a NEW session at half price and must be scheduled within 2 weeks of your regular session.  All the photos from the original session will be deleted.

Privacy Policy

Photography by Kj LLC is committed to your privacy.  Information collected from clients in person, over the phone, in emails or through our website is strictly confidential.  We will not sell or exchange names or any other personally identifiable information about our clients with third parties, and work to ensure your personal information is secure at all times.   We fully understand that some clients want to remain anonymous due to their job or personal life.

High School Yearbook Photo

Photography by Kj will email the yearbook photo to your yearbook adviser.  However you must give us the email address of the adviser.  As with anything digital or technical, we can't guarantee our email went through.  Therefore it is the responsibility of the student/parent to check with the yearbook adviser and make sure they have received the photo of their choosing prior to the deadline.

Hair & Makeup

For an additional fee we offer hair and makeup to our clients.  We have a HMU artist who comes to the studio prior to your session to do this. The client is responsible for telling Kj or the HMU artist if they are unhappy with their hair or makeup PRIOR TO TAKING PHOTOS.  You will also be asked to sign an agreement that states you have seen your hair and makeup and are satisfied with it and have had several opportunities to make any changes.  After this agreement is signed and photos begin, we will not be responsible if the client doesn't like their hair or makeup for any reason.  No refunds or re-takes will be made if the agreement is signed.  If the client is unhappy with their hair or makeup and expresses that to the HMU artist and/or Kj, we will do everything in our power to change it so they do like it, within a reasonable time.  If that is unable to happen we will have to reschedule the photo shoot and HMU session, at the additional cost of to the client.  Absolutely no refunds will be given if the client is unhappy with their hair and/or makeup.
